Portfolio reflection

I learned a lot on reading and recognizing different genres of writing. That opened my eyes to a more improved  assignments for the future. A genre that was new to me was historical genre writing. For the assignments that we had to read from way back in B.C time period.

I learned a lot of writing techniques in this class. that will definitely help me in the future when it comes to organizing and visualizing my own work. Some of these techniques include the way I site my sources. since at first I used to just site the title of my source at end of my example. Although now I site the title, the authors name, and when the source was created. This is very beneficial since now i can easily go back to my work and find the source and it makes my work easier to introduce a source and still look neat.

interests I discovered in the reading materials, was the more up to date readings. For instance the black lives matter readings and the voter suppression reading. These were both readings that could be compared to today’s lifestyle. with the unfortunate death of George Floyd and the 2020 elections.

I really enjoyed the discussion post assignments. Especially when someone replied back to my response, and agreed or disagreed and gave a reasoning why. Even if you were confused with the questions I liked that you could go to someone else discussion and sorta get any idea or exercise your mind a little more on the topic.

Personally, I learned that from engaging with other writers I could incorporate our similarities or differences on point of views into my next assignment. What I mean by that is if someone disagreed with me that helped me open my eyes a little more and understand where they’re coming from.

This college class is definitely way different from my high school English class, in the sense that freshmen comp i was open to a lot more varieties on what I could write about. Compared to high school everyone’s work sounded so similar because we were all going off what the teacher wanted to hear.
